2017 Year 10 Written Text Assessment on ‘The Outsiders’

In The Outsiders by S.E Hinton dialogue was used to show how ponyboy’s thoughts. We see this when Macia and Ponyboy are outside the drivin and Macia was asking about darry and Ponyboy say “He doesn’t care about me”. This makes the audience feel sad for Ponyboy thinking darry doesn't care about him. He thinks he only cares about himself and Sodapop. This reminds me of the story On The Sidewalk Bleeding when the couple see him a know he's injured but don't do anything because they are scared of the other gang.  

In The Outsiders By S.E Hinton  actions were used to show dallys sadness. We see this just after Johnny dies when dally pulls the switch blade at the doctor and the shop owner. This makes the audience feel worried for the people around his safety. This aspect can be compared to when johnny killed bob at the fountain and he only done it because he was scared.
In The Outsiders by S.E Hinton Actions were used to show Darry did care about Ponyboy. We see this we Ponyboy and Johnny are in the burning church and after Ponyboy gets out darry slaps his back to put the fire out  and accidently knocks him out. This makes the audience feel scared for Ponyboy safety and how he will react to it. This aspect can be compared On The Sidewalk Bleeding when the drunk guy seen andy and thought he was drunk too because he couldn’t see the blood.

In The Outsiders By S.E Hinton emotions were used to show darry really did care about him. We see this when they are at the hospital just after the fire when Darry says “Why did you do that”and “The only reson I am so hard on you is becauce i dont want to lose you”. This shows us that the whole time darry did care about Ponyboy he just didn’t want him to get hurt or killed by anyone. This aspect can be compared to the night Ponyboy and Johnny sleeped at the park and when he got hom Darry Said “where have you been” and that was because he was worried about him.

2017 Year 10 2nd Film Assessment

In the film ‘The Power of One’ sound effects were a very important technique. The director John .G. Auildsen used this when borth through the stone at the chicken. This makes understand that botha wants to be as mean as possible to p.k. This was done to show that he did kill the chicken and he does not like the english. This reminds me of when pk pushes botha on to the flag and it stabs him in the butt lather in the scene.

 

Low angle shots are used effectively. For example the director used this when geel piet is in the prison and the guard makes him eat feces. This shows the guards have no respect to the prisoners. The director did this to show that the guards and prisoners do not get along. This combined with the sound effects made it seem very real. This reminds me of the scene geel piet gets beaten to death.

High angle shots were used well. We see this when the guard beats gee piet to death. This shows that the guards can get away with anything. This was done to show what it was like in those times and what people had to live with. This reminds me of the scene the guard makes geel piet eat feces.

Costume was a important technique. We see this when they are in the prison compared to what the people in the school. This shows that the blacks were not looked after and the whites got to have everything. This was done to show in the apartid time no one realy cared about the black they only cared about them selfs. This reminds me of when botha said that they are going to kill all english.
